A Life of Service

A shepherd who gathered a community

Our founder arrived in Canada among the first wave of Ukrainian settlers, carrying a deep devotion to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Eastern Rite. Serving in the scattered parishes of the prairies, he saw firsthand how the faith of a community needed a strong lay foundation to endure in a new land.

In 1932 he drew together the disparate parish societies, founding the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada — a fellowship devoted to supporting the clergy, nurturing liturgical life, and passing the heritage to the generations that followed.

His vision joined Catholic devotion with Canadian civic responsibility. He believed that faithful lay men and women could be a pillar of the Church while being worthy citizens of their new homeland — a conviction that remains at the heart of the Brotherhood to this day.

Where two or three gather in faith, there our heritage lives on.

His work laid the foundation on which dozens of branches across Canada still stand today. The founder’s legacy is not a monument to the past, but a living community that carries his mission forward.
